Welcome to the world of blondes

What to know about going blonde!

Thinking About Going Blonde?

The world is filled with brunettes who want to be blonde! This offers a special challenge to professional hair colorists. There is a different way to highlight dark hair which can minimize contrast. Here, you will find little key notes of what goes into being blonde, along with some maintenance tips for those who are already blonde, and would like to keep the health and vibrancy of their hair!

Bleaching and Toning

If you're looking to go blonde, but you have naturally brown or black hair, beaching is inevitable. Bleaching the hair will slowly open up the pores of your hair, taking out the color of your natural hair, giving the brassy blonde color. Bleaching does NOT guarantee lightest blonde results.

We utilize a special formula with low volume developer that gives color a high lift. This gentle lightening process prepares dark hair to receive highlights in different variations of blonde tones as opposed to a more dark contrast.

Toning is what gives you that shade of blonde that you really desire! There is a wide range of blondes, including ashy, golden, strawberry and even platinum!

Critical Things to Think About Before Bleaching

Going blonde is a long term investment.

  • Changes the strands of your hair
    • If you have never had you hair colored in anyway, then your hair is virgin. After putting color onto our hair, than it will never be in the virgin state again (Unless its new hair growth).

You must maintain it after getting it done.

  • By creating a hair care regiment will help keep your hair the level of blonde you walked out of the salon with!
  • It helps fight against warmth, giving your blonde a bright glow!
  • Keeping your hair healthy is one of the best long term investments you can make! Having healthy hair will allow you to do so much more then what you can with dried out, dead, hair!

Don't put off your follow up appointment.

  • Nothing is worse then the moment you notice the root starting to grow in, and can be seen from a few feet away. We can help avoid those inevitable moments!  By scheduling your next appointment, allows you to avoid those moments of awkwardness when your roots are plain in sight. It also helps our stylist give you that natural color.
    • Waiting too long to get your roots done can effect the color and tone of the roots after getting bleached. This discoloration is shows as a "band" around your hair, which is very noticeable. This is very prominent if your hair is dark brown to black. Even though it can be toned, it will not matched the tone of the previously colored hair.

Leave that cheap purple shampoo on the store shelf!

  • You can make blonde hair last and look vibrant while being healthy, then a good purple shampoo! This is a key point in keeping blonde hair blonde and healthy. Cheaper shampoos are never the answer! In fact, choosing a purple shampoo will make or break your blonde hair.
    • The two big bad sulfates commonly found in purple shampoo, they are Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES).

I look amazing! ... now what?

Why Do I Need To Maintain Blonde Hair?

Nothing is better then walking out of our salon doors with amazing blonde hair that shines! You then get to go show it off to your friends and family, do a few hair flips, but what comes after that? Aftercare! Creating a hair regiment after getting your hair chemically treated/colored is the upmost, if not, the most important part of keeping amazing hair.

Creating an aftercare regiment for your hair will ensure that it increases the longevity of your hair color, while up keeping the health of each strand of your hair. Here at The Legacy Salon, we highly encourage booking a Olaplex following getting your hair colored. Even though the Olaplex last for about 6 weeks, it is critical that those weeks in between are cared for.

What Should Be Included in

When getting your hair lightened, it is very chemically straining on your hair. By doing some of the following, you can help keep your hair looking, along with feeling, healthy and vibrant!

  • Purple Shampoo
    • Using a purple shampoo is a key point into keeping blonde hair blonde. Purple shampoo helps get rid of warmth and neutralize yellow left after bleaching/toning hair.
  • Clairify your hair 2 times a week
    • Clarifying your hair helps get rid of build up on the scalp from everyday  debris, hair product build up, and deep cleans the pores to ensure healthy hair growth.
  • Wet your hair before going into a chlorine pool
    • Think of your hair like a sponge when you get into the pool. If its dry, its going to absorb all the liquid it can. However, if its wet, its going to maintain what it already has absorbed rather then soak up more. So, if your hair is wet with clean water, its going to reduce the amount of chlorine absorbed. This will also lower the chances of blonde turning a "green" tint.
